Gbagada, Lagos, June 2020 — Northwest Petroleum and Gas has opened a new Mega Retail Station along the Gbagada-Oworoshoki Expressway, in a bid to boost petrol products distribution around the axis. Sitting on a 10,000sqm expanse of land, the magnificent structure is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities: Wayne’s highest model Helix 4000 pumps with 30 nozzles dispensing fuel at the rate of 40 liters per minute, currently one of the highest for a single station. The blessing of the station was done by Rev. Fr. Paul Ijasan and commissioned by His Excellency, The Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwolu. Speaking at the event, the Governor described the world class Mega station as both a beacon of hope and timely intervention in the face of the crippling economic impacts of the pandemic. In his words, “there’s no better time for us to have a different conversation than now; to express to our people that even whilst the pandemic is going on, business in some sort needs to begin to happen. And so we certainly need to create an atmosphere and environment where businesses need to thrive, need to do well and open up our economy, so that people can see the essence and benefits that Lagos and Lagos state government bring to businesses”. The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Northwest Petroleum & Gas Company Ltd. Dame Mrs Winifred Akpani, highlighted how much traction the project has created in the area of recruitment and job opportunities, as the retail outlet swings into full operation. “We don’t have less than 50 people to begin work today,” she revealed in her address. This is crucial to the times, as more and more businesses move towards downsizing to cushion the impacts of the pandemic, Northwest Petroleum upholds her tradition of service and excellence beyond profit: “we believe that it’s not just about making money, it is also about training” .
